STEP 1

Sum the year digitsAdd all digits of birth year to a single digit. 1975 → 1+9+7+5 = 22 → 2+2 = 4

STEP 2

Apply gender formulaMale: 10 − digit = Kua. Female: digit + 5 = Kua (subtract 9 if over 9). Uses Solar calendar — year starts ~Feb 4.

EXAMPLE

Male born 19631+9+6+3=19→10→1, 10−1=9. Male born 1975: digit=4, 10−4=6. Female born 1970: 1+9+7+0=17→8, 8+5=13→4. Male born 1967: 1+9+6+7=23→5, 10−5=5→Kua2. Female born 1964: 1+9+6+4=20→2, 2+5=7. Result: Kua 7.
